| Dept.
of Transportation (DOT) Physical Examination educational offerings.
The Dept. of Transportation recognizes DCs as qualified health care
providers for performing DOT Physical Examinations. This has not changed.
What will be changing is that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(FMCSA) is working to implement an educational program for health
care providers. Those wishing to continue performing these exams may
complete that course and then be listed in a National Registry of
Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME). But the course is not yet
available as of
12/9/08
. It should be noted that there is not a program of this particular
topic available anywhere that is promised to meet the upcoming federal
educational component. While some market a DOT Phys. Exam program as "the
bee's knee" - the one that the feds will embrace - there is absolutely
no promise from the feds to any one source about that. It is still
well worth the investment for DCs to take part in such programs but not
to anticiapte it will be the ultimate federal program. |
