Statistically,
dollars spent toward indirect costs range between $3-$50 for every $1
dollar exhausted in meeting direct costs. If a single workplace injury
costs $14,000, indirect costs significantly multiply that direct cost
figure into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Reinjury (to an already
injured worker returned to work) generally costs 10 times more than
the first injury. Fortunately, smart employers and insurers take agressive
action to implement return-to-work programs, transitioning the individual
back to desired or normal work ability. These steps minimize or prevent
uncontrollable or escalating costs, exhibit genuine social responsibility
to the worker, and reduce the risk of disability for the individual.
DCs offer a broad menu of services to employers that stand to dramatically
reduce and often prevent injury from occuring in the first place. Rather
than looking at occupational consulting in the narrow view of workers'
compensation, the DC can - because of years of educational background
in anatomy, biomechanics and wellness - view a much larger picture.
That picture is the dream of employers - keeping employees safe and
productive.
As progressive employers understand the reality of the value chiropractic
holds for cost-containment, the company's bottom line is positively
impacted and the safety culture of the workplace is improved.
